In 2021 and 2023, I ran a twelve-week course called The Writing Journey, loosely based on Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey paradigm (1949). The sessions explored what it meant to set out on a writing quest, venture into unknown territory and face peril along the way, and to return with newfound insights.

This autumn, I invite you to join me on The Writing Journey 2, inspired by Maureen Murdock’s Heroine’s Journey (1990; 2020). The heroine’s journey is an inward one towards integration, with twists and turns along the way.

The primary goal of the course is Writing for Wellbeing, meaning self-expression, creativity for enjoyment and healing, connection with others, and gaining personal insights, and there will also be consideration of different elements of creative writing (word, sentence, dialogue, metaphor, etc.) Prompts will include poems, pictures, prose, sound and video.

The course is ideal for writers of all genders. No previous experience of creative writing in a group is necessary.

I'm a published author and a qualified and experienced Creative Writing for Wellbeing facilitator. I create a safely-held space where participants have the opportunity to write into a prompt and then share their writing with the group if they wish to. The focus is always on the content of your writing; there’s no literary critique.

The Writing Journey 2 is suitable for people new to Creative Writing for Wellbeing as well as more experienced writers. The course will operate within CARE guidelines (Confidentiality, Attention, Respect and Empathy), allowing participants to take creative and emotional risks in a safely-held space. There's no obligation to write in a particular way, nor to share your work if you don't want to. No previous experience is necessary.
